Question Sets

Question sets are reusable banks of assessment items. Attach a set to one or more tests without rebuilding questions each time.

Manage question sets from Questions at https://testhiveapp.com/organization/questions.

Create a question set

Open Questions

Go to https://testhiveapp.com/organization/questions.

Create and name your set

Create a new question set and give it a descriptive name.

Add questions

Add questions manually, or open the Question Studio at https://testhiveapp.com/organization/questions/{id}/studio for AI-assisted editing.

The studio supports reviewing, rerolling, improving, adding, and removing individual items before you finalize.

Question types

Testhive supports multiple item formats, including:

  • Multiple choice — several options with one or more correct answers
  • True / false — binary questions with explanations
  • Descriptive — open-ended responses evaluated manually or by AI
  • Coding — programming challenges with test cases

Finalize and publish

Review all items

Review all items in the studio or summary view.

Finalize the set

Finalize the set so it is available for tests and wizards.

Confirm status

Confirm the question count and status on the Questions list.

Clone and export

From the Questions page you can:

  • Clone a set to create a variant without starting from scratch
  • Export a set for backup or offline review

Sets in use by live tests

Warning: If a question set is referenced by an active test, structural edits are blocked. The API returns a conflict when you try to update or delete questions in an in-use set.

If you need to change content that is already tied to a test:

  1. Clone the question set and make edits on the copy, then create a new test from the cloned set, or
  2. Cancel the existing test first (see the Tests guide), then edit the original set.

This protects candidates from seeing questions change mid-assessment.

Next steps

  • Tests — schedule an assessment from your question set
  • Wizard — generate a new set with AI instead of building manually
